Community Updates

As we know, June is not only Pride Month, but also National Indigenous History Month. As such, we recommend you check out some of the following content produced by folks in the LGBTQ2IA+ and Indigenous communities.

Honour Water - Honour Water brings together Anishinaabemowin songs and water teachings in a singing game for healing water. The graphics were created by Elizabeth LaPensée (Anishinaabe/Métis), who uses writing, design, and art in games, comics, and animation as a form of self expression.
The songs featured were gifted by Sharon Day and the Oshkii Giizhik Singers. It is available for free on iOS, Android, and other platforms. (from CBC)
Never Alone (Kisima Ingitchuna) - Forty Iñupiat Elders, storytellers and community members collaborated with Upper One Games to develop the game Never Alone. Upper One Games is one of the first Indigenous owned commercial gaming company in the United States.
The adventure follows a young Iñupiat girl and an arctic fox, who set out to find the source of an eternal blizzard which threatens the survival of everything they have ever known. (from CBC)
GDX 2016 attendees will remember this game as we featured it and had a virtual presentation (back when those were new) from the creators of the game.

Celeste - Celeste received universal acclaim upon release, and was largely considered one of the best games of 2018. It received high praise for its gameplay, level design, soundtrack, themes, and emotional story, as well as for Madeline's characterization; it was also singled out for being demanding yet enjoyable for casual players, hardcore players, speedrunners, and completionists alike. It won the Best Independent Game and Games for Impact awards at The Game Awards 2018, where it was also nominated for Game of the Year. (from Wikipedia)
Hades - Hades is a rogue-like dungeon crawler in which you defy the god of the dead as you hack and slash your way out of the Underworld of Greek myth.
